IMPORTANT - New for 2016-2017 - Please Read

Rye Youth Lacrosse is now adopting newly mandated US Lacrosse guidelines for age-based lacrosse participation effective immediately for this coming spring 2017 season. This is a change from previous years when RYL was grade-base.

Please see below the relevant explanations about:

1. What is the policy ?

2. Why is this necessary ?

3. How does it impact our RYL participants ?

1. What is the policy ?

As of September 1, 2016 all US Lacrosse registered players (you must be US Lacrosse registered to play in Rye Youth Lacrosse) will play according to age-based groups. These groupings will be the following - see below table for full date/age-based brackets:

U14:  9/1/02-8/31-03

U13:    9/1/03-8/31/04

U12:   9/1/04 -8/31/05

U11: 9/1/05 - 8/31/06

U10: 9/1/06 - 8/31/07

U9:  9/1/07 -8/31/08

* U8: 9/1/08 - 8/31/09

* U7: 9/1/09-8/31/10

* U6:9/1/10 - 8/31/11

**Eligible for House Only

**Consistent with the long-standing RYL eligibility policy, RYL is open to children who live in Rye City, attend a Rye City school, or previously attended a Rye school while in RYL. Your residency eligibility will be affirmed in the registration process.

2. Why is this necessary ?

RYL and all our participants are members of US Lacrosse and required to abide by US Lacrosse guidelines. Our RYL decision to shift our program rules from grade-based to age-based is consistent with what US Lacrosse requires and consistent with the guidelines from both Hudson Valley Lacrosse and CONNY (CT and NY Lacrosse) associations, which are organizations within which RYL participates and which set the framework for all towns that RYL competes against.

3. How does it impact RYL participants ?

The US Lacrosse rules will have limited impact on some of our RYL members across some of our age-groups for both boys and girls. What this means is that there will be some players from last year’s teams that will have to play according to their age, and not according to their grade in school. Please see the table to assess if your child is impacted. When you register for RYL you will automatically be placed within the appropriate age-based group - you do not have the option to choose.

What to do if your child is impacted by the changes in age-based versus grade-based categories
